The Learning Hospital

The Learning Hospital is a program designed to teach children how to love learning by teaching them the basic skills of reading.

(1) Children will learn that reading involves learning the 26 letters of the alphabet.

(2) Children will learn that the letters of the alphabet make sounds. 5 of the letters and y have 2 sounds.

(3) They learn that consonants and vowels work together to build words.

(4) Our vocabulary consists of many words that are learned as one progresses in school. We learn to spell these words, called sight words and we get a different group of sight words each year. This leads to the road to reading.

Next, children learn to use these words with other words to make sentences...paragraphs... stories...

Parents, teachers, other adults and peers share in this learning process by talking and reading to children and/or to one another.

The mission of The Learning Hospital is to get children excited about learning and to get back to teaching the basics.

An additional goal of our program is to get parents (the child's first and most important teacher) involved from the very beginning of the child's life in teaching him/her to read.
